Have I change my Hero firmware last month? Yes.. I did.. and it was last 20th February I updated my firmware to Kagudroid 1.2.2.

Hmmm.. less then a month but I have to change to the new firmware.. why? well there have some issue with Kagudroid 1.2.2. such as battery drain soo fast.. can’t operate the camera on 5MP, can’t use Bluetooth headset to make a call, can’t sync facebook profile photo with contacts and many more.  Moreover I prefer HTC UI rather then Donut version.

Anyway what’s about BeHero 1.2.4?

Which is better HTC Hero vs iPhone vs Blackberry Bold?

Erm.. Which one is better from three of these phones? Honestly each one of them has their own Pros and Cons of cause. I have had an iPhone 2G & 3G for two years but now I changed to HTC Hero which I’ve used 4months now. Blackberry? Erm.. haven’t use that one yet but maybe near future (still thinking about it heheh).

Credit to ronald9898 for his observation about these three Phone. Of cause I will added some of it base on my experience on iPhone and HTC Hero. Observations are based on Touch Screen, Messaging, Size, Personality and Application.

Touch Screen:
Iphone is the best followed by HTC Hero for the sensitivity. Both iPhone and HTC Hero on-screen keyboard are responsive compare with any touch screen mobile. Blackberry Bold is perfect size for one hand operation with a keyboard. In term of screen, HTC Hero (3.2-inches) only few mm smaller than iPhone (3.5-inches) and Blackberry Bold screen is too small for watching movies.

Messaging:
For this I have to say that Blackberry Bold won. The simplistic way Blackberry handles multiple email accounts and texting is way better compare with HTC Hero and iPhone. HTC Hero is lacks some responsiveness when opening emails while iPhone does open HTML email and larger email better than the Blackberry Bold but of cause to load the larger email will course delays/lagging or even Force Close/crash screen.

Size:
If we talking about the screen, Yes iPhone is larger but seems perfect for a touch screen only device. HTC Hero is a very convenient size but the size hurts the complete touch screen functionality since its not as responsive as iPhone while as for Blackberry Bold screen is smaller than the other two but having a keyboard seems to make messaging faster but not navigation through multiple screens like the other two.

Personality:
For personality a thumb up to HTC Hero. HTC Hero come with a Sense UI (User Interface) technology which you can great your own theme it sort of your own theme to express yourself. IPhone doesn’t have the ability to completely change your theme but you can only move the icons. Icons will always be present (what if you want a list or columns cause the icons are clunky and space hogs?) No way to make your iPhone customized to the point where you can use application as a home screen e.g. Clock, calendar, etc. iPhone themes and looks are just too generic No Personality.

Sorry forks as I don’t own Blackberry before so am not sure this function on Blackberry but am pretty sure it will be same as iPhone or maybe the icon can’t move at all as Blackberry is a business centric device.

Application:

Now there have thousands of applications you can download from Apps Store for iPhone (some come with free and some are paid software). Once you have jailbreak the iPhone, the application range will be even greater! As for HTC Hero the phone use Android as its operating system (OS), android has come a long way and most of the application are free but sometimes the application for Android are now stable. You need Apps Store to download iPhone application while HTC Hero you need Android Market to download the application. Unfortunately Blackberry can’t beat the other two as it has a limited of choice in the Blackberry app store.

Okeh.. If you can make a iPhone with the applications and customization or a HTC Hero or Android phone with the stability of iPhone apps, faster processor in phone, higher resolution and more responsive touch screen, you will have the perfect phone. My opinion on Blackberry Bold... it plays as professional phone or for business purposes. If you prefer a nice toy to play with then better get HTC Hero or iPhone.

HTC Hero : Tips & Tricks

Posted by Alan 10:28 PM 0 comments

hero

I have had my Hero about a about 4 months now. So far no complain :-D that’s good and I thought it might be helpful to share some tips/tricks in this blog.. :-)

  1. First thing to do is to Calibrate the on-screen keyboard. Setting > Locale & Text > Touch Input > Text Input > Calibration Tool.
  2. Of cause everyone would love to have their own MP3 ringtones.. sooo you can load your MP3 files (maybe need to do some editing on the file) into these directories on your memory card:
    • SDCARDS\MEDIA\AUDIO\NOTIFICATIONS (this for SMS or Alert)
    • SDCARDS\MEDIA\AUDIO\RINGTONES
  3. To bring up a menu with your recent apps – HOLD DOWN the HOME key for a few seconds
  4. To activate the speakerphone - HOLD DOWN the SEND key for a few seconds
  5. To activate Google Voice Search - HOLD DOWN the SEARCH key for a few seconds
  6. Taking picture maybe a bit difficult to press the trackball. Alternative you can HOLD your finger on the screen (this will focus and snap a picture). Problem is don’t know which part it will focus on heheheh.
  7. Ok this is one of the tricks, Press the MENU key twice it will unlock the screen so you don’t have to scroll down the screen to unlock the phone.
